Eiffel Tower

Going to the top of the Eiffel Tower is not worth the time and inconvenience involved in doing so. However, it is one of those things that you figure you have to do once in your lifetime.

It takes two elevator stages to reach the top, and you wait in line for each stage. Even in April, which is not peak season, the wait is quite long.

Built for the 1889 World’s Fair as a temporary structure, it was the first “observation tower”, and it remains the tallest structure in Paris. The weakness of the tower, as an a observation platform, is that it narrows as it goes up, and the highest deck is quite small, and therefore packed with tourists. Modern observation towers have large disks at their tops, to provide a lot of room and window space.
