I am in the Hong Kong International Airport, waiting for my flight to Chengdu. So far, most of the trip has been waiting and flying. And long-haul flying is very tedious, made worse when you only manage a couple of hours sleep on a flight that begins at 1:20am.
The good news is that I am in the VIP lounge for China Airlines. I had to get a business-class ticket for the final Hong Kong to Chengdu leg, because the economy seats were sold out. The VIP lounge has free food and booze, comfortable seats, showers, and internet access. That’s probably not really worth the extra couple-hundred bucks for ticket, but it sure feels good when I am 20 hours into 26 hours of travel time! I’ll also have nice, big, comfortable seat for the final 2-1/2 hour flight.
Soon, I will finally get to crash at Sam’s Guesthouse in Chengdu. Only then will I finally realize just how tired and jet-lagged I really am.
It’s time for a shot of Chivas, and relaxation in a lounge chair. Next post should be from Chengdu, after a good night’s rest.
(I had forgotten just how funky the computers can be when they are public-access. They can be really funky! And even funkier in China, because all of the menus are in Chinese. Can someone remind me of the shortcut to switch Windows/Explorer into English mode?)
